Short disc ..... any good

Before we purchased we demoed a Horsch Joker, Weaving Short Disc and Vaderstadt Carrier. The Carrier was superior but far too expensive. On hard dry stubblesthe Weaving Short Disc performed better than the other machines. I liked the rear packer on the Weaving and in the end that's what we purchased. It does "bounce" at times and I've wondered if being a mounted machine doesn't help. For what it cost it was a good buy. The Proforge machines look similar and if I was buying again I'd go for a trailed version. Our Massey 6480 struggled to lift our 4m Weaving if discs and packer were blocked with soil. You'd need a big tractor for a 6m mounted!

Why would you remove the wheels and draw bar carry a machine like that on the linkage ?

The photos are out of order - to make it fit on a 'Euroliner' spec lorry it arrived as a mounted machine with the trailing kit separate. But it's a bit heavy to use as a mounted machine, even with an extra 920kg on the front.

Where is that from?
Are you pleased with it. Build quality, set up easy?
What sort of money was it?

Rolex, Poland.

Still cutting OSR, so haven't tried it yet. It looks solid with some nice bracing, but there are couple of details that look a bit 'smiddy built'. Set up looks easy enough, opted for the hydraulic depth adjustment on the roller. Rolex also say they dont need scrapers for the 'Angle bar roller', so it might need half a day in the workshop to add them.

Price wise, with all the options (upgrade roller, LED lights, trailing kit, hydraulic depth control, upgraded bearings and about £400 worth of spares) it worked out to be about 12k, but the delivery on top was another 2k to haul it 1600 miles across Europe. It does add up, but still a fraction of the cost of the French or German equivalents.

As for reliability, ask again in 10 years.

Looking at importing a new mounted 6m one at the minute. New price is around £9250 + vat + delivery. That gets two rows of discs, rear rubber (DD like) roller which is hydraulically adjustable, maintenance free hubs all round, lights, scrapers and obviously hydraulic folding. The only thing putting me off is I'm not sure it can run shallow enough due to possibly lacking some refinement which is expected due to the price!
Why go for the rubber roller.i was advised to go for the steel one and I'm glad I did.it does a bit of chopping aswell as packing

On all the machines I've looked at the rubber roller is the heaviest per metre which is paramount for black grass germination.

Setting up takes a bit of experimenting.i normally put all the weight on the roller when on ploughed land and use the weight of the roller to get some penetration on stubbles.find it better to lock the roller rather than let it float.i can get away with 125hp on stubbles but want a lot more on ploughed land.ive only got 5metres so my jd7710 manages pretty well.can do in the region of 10acres an hour.
