This year I’ve (semi) retired from tractor work and I’m going to be lugging more food out to the tractor boys in the field
What’s your top tractor tea
The thing that lifts your spirts when you see it arriving in the field at tea time

Chinese or McDonald’s  same as when I’m at home mind
Really , 😛 When cutting at other farm ,wife comes over with tea for three of us ,
Lamb @Old Tip and butternut curry ,home made bread , then coffe and wallnut cake ,with either yoghurt or ice cream ,and fresh strawberries and raspberries , , And a dabble in chocolate tin if want owt else
Next night , beef chilli ,and same pudding ,
Get tea brought most nights , and when she comes back from work always calls with ice cream ,if on land work or drilling , will bring tea out if not back by seven , cannot eat late

Crumbs, I used to be delighted with my can of cold beans straight from the tin but trailer drivers used to complain/gag from the thought of it.

By tea time my snap box usually looks like this.......

In the 21st century I find it appalling that despite all the comforts of modern day machinery , I think it is appalling that the welfare of farm/ estate staff is so sadly lacking.
Humans are like animals we all get hungry, thirsty and tired. Preparing ones own food for a 12 hr day is one thing, after that I think management should be prepared to supply fish and chips or similar.

As a child In Cambridgeshire, I always remember my grandmother taking harvest tea down to the Combine drivers at 4 o’clock in her Renault 4 car. It was always flasks of tea, marmite sandwiches with the crusts removed and cut into triangles followed by Battenberg cake!

My Grandfather and Uncle’s Combines always worked together, being a Claas SF and a Claydon M133.

Many years later In Suffolk, when driving my Father’s NH M140, I had to go to our local dealer Knight’s of Harleston to get some parts. Whilst there, our neighbour’s Wife rushed in to get some bits for their own Combine. The guy serving her asked what make of Combine her husband had.
She said “ I’ve no idea, but it is blue and I take it tea at 4 o’clock every day.”

”Ah,” he said, ”that will be a Ransomes then!”

I take it no one on here makes a butty/food box every morning to last incase till next day then and has a treat if you manage to detour past a shop or garage from time to time!!!

Yep always done that but then I've always been an employee. No nipping into the house for lunch/smoko etc. You also never know where you'll be or how long you'll be, which makes it hard to know how much to take.
Years ago farmers used to bring tea out at silage time but that seemed to fizzle out over the years.

In 1992 (a harvest very similar to this one, being hot a dry to start with then wet), I was asked to go and help another Suffolk Farmer out with his harvest, our own having been completed. We had a NH TF42 and it was up against 2 JD1188’s.

Every day at 6 o’clock, everybody working on that farm got Fish and Chips to keep us going until we knocked off, usually between midnight and 1am. It worked, never have Fish and Chips tasted so good! But no stopping to eat them - we ate on the move.

The first day, I just followed the JD’s around. We were all on CB, so on day 2, I asked if I could lead and go first.
From then on, every 4th round, they had to pull over and let me overtake them again!

A week passed and by that time another JD came to help and also a NH TX36.
This was costing the farmer a fortune in Fish and Chips each day! Not just for the 5 Combine drivers, but all the Tractor and trailer drivers.
He came and sat with me for a round and said that this harvest was costing him a fortune, but was glad for the help.
He said that if any of the drivers threw any more grain off the back, he would “boot their arses off the farm!“
I said I hoped my TF wasn’t losing much, to which he replied “Your TF isn’t losing a drop. It’s my JD’s that are losing it!”

Off topic.
Why doesn’t the “Farm Contractor “
magazine mention farm staff in their articles,
it’s implies staff are just taken for granted. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I know staff are not heroes but it would be nice for their efforts to be acknowledged, as ones staff are ones greatest asset especially the larger the business.
