When to cut new herbal ley?

Rowed up this morning wagon picking up 1st load now.

Any one know how these herbal lays analyse as silage compared to grass silage cut at similar intervals?

Wilt and pick up, or do you spread it first?

I felt I have too much leafy material to even try and make hay...

Feeding out a bit of the first cut HL at present and boy is it nice looking and smelling stuff.

Once they get over the surprise they can't get enough of it in my experience.

Got 4.5 wagon loads off 10arces today. Was expecting a couple more loads than this however weather was not drying last cut whereas yesterday and today has been a bit hot! I'd like to think the wagon packs in more DM when grass is dryer.

It's like the difference between offering students endless roast beef dinners or endless all you can eat buffet. The offer of variety hugely increases intake.

Cut it again. Probably should have waited another couple of weeks but wanted to put grass on top of wholecrop without doing the sheets/tyres again. About 1/3 wagon load an acre.
