Our friend Dr Paul O’Donoghue - he of lynx fame to name but one - is now after reintroducing Golden Eagles in to Snowdonia and has set up a petition was well as just having a piece on BBC Wales news this evening

Golden Eagles in Wales made it to today's Jeremy Whine programme of Radio 2 featuring our wildlife hero, Iolo Williams (who is a decent bloke tbh the times I have met him).

Anyone wanting a listen ..

Ignoring some modern day insecurities etc, why should they not be allowed to reintroduce a species that was decimated by humans to the point of being none left..
For me - if we can put the wrongs from previous generations right and balance the equation, then it is a good thing surely.

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem at all with seeing Golden Eagles back on Yr Wyddfa Eryri but then I'm not a hill farmer who will have to watch impotently as his/her lambs get taken.

My beef is with this guy O'Donoghue who seems to think he can ride roughshod over centuries of farming and then inherent sense of community they bring with schemes to rewild Britain & re-introduce species willy nilly because they were once here. His ludicrous Sea to Mountain scheme in mid Wales was the most ambitious yet

He’s a busy chap......

set up another charity that‘s not a charity called “We rescue animals”.

No wonder he had to give up posting on here, too much else on.

But if we, ie man, poisoned and bated them out of an area to suit our own gains, then personally I feel he has a valid point on this one irrespective of hill farming or not (and that is not a dig).
We cannot continue to simply get rid of a species simply to protect game birds and potentially young lambs.

Are you going to offer your farm for the reintroduction of bear, wolves and lynx then?

As the climate changes and the rewilders enjoy success (at least in terms of getting thier own way), there will no doubt be arguements as some native species die out that other non-natives or nearest approximations to lost natives should be introduced, or they will just be let out in some DEFRA chaps garden, I fancy rattlesnakes personally, control the rats with no poison

f**k me & call me Maureen ............... I thought "Summit to Sea" (O'r Mynydd i'r Mor) was defunct and so much pie in the sky but it turns out RSPB Cymru are now the lead "stakeholder" in driving the project forward.

From their website, this caught my attention:

A vision of this scale requires a coordinated effort between landowners, communities, farmers, fishers, foresters, public bodies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), businesses and relevant experts. At the moment there are seven project partner organisations

7 Guesses as to the project partners?

RSPB Cymru, Montgomery Wildlife Trust, Coed Cadw, PLAS Marine Conservation, Whale & Dolphin Conservation, Marine Conservation Society, WWF Cymru

Stupid fool that I am, I thought it would/could only be achieved at the behest & with the good will of the landowners/farmers
