Assured grain price vs non-assured

As there's been so much discussion on here about Red Tractor lately, I was wondering what the difference is between assured and non-assured grain. I've heard that it could be as little as £3 a ton, or as much as 25%. If it was to the former, then I would drop it for certain. One thing I do know from talking to lorry drivers over the years is that it almost always goes into the same heap regardless of its status.

Watch Wardys waffle on the utube tonight - as he says, very difficult to find anyone to buy it.

And to add a bit more….

Milling wheat cannot be sold without it so that premium is lost to the farmer whatever the spec may be.

But once it’s in the hands of the merchant….suddenly it can become assured again and they pocket the milling premium FOC.

Perhaps the answer is to have a buyer and negotiate a contract before you plant the crop?

I'm always surprised that people think they can just grow what they want, when they want and have a mob of people wanting to buy it with no requirements 🤷‍♂️

The first merchant that offers to buy non assured wheat at only a couple of quid less than assured, will bring the RT pack of cards tumbling !!

There is a legitimate way of getting non FA wheat, sold as assured. Just need to be creative !!
He could have all my wheat. As they already buy non assured imported they might as well buy non assured home grown. What's the difference?

Money to keep the gravy train going, to fleece farmers and gradually ratchet up control so that the supermarkets can use our greening and carbon credit to polish their environmental halos whilst importing non assured net zero food from abroad.

It's not the merchant It's the mills, I can get unassured on a boat but not into a mill.No boats about this year though

There is no difference.

Oh....you mean price! ;)

My non-assured doesn’t have it’s very own grain trailer or loader bucket, which it would if it had a sticker. It’s also been sprayed with a machine that is only tested every three years, not every year, and by an operator that hasn’t collected any points.
As of next year, it will also have been fed with urea, that may be applied after April 1st.

Your comment relates to the processed behind the production.

There is no difference within the grain itself.
