Last call for bids on Border Livestock's tender sale, all lots end at mid day today.

Good question. It's 44 years old and needs some TLC and tidying up. I'd imagine it's probably cereals tight, but not OSR tight as oilseed wasn't really grown until 1986.
Border Livestock Auctions are holding an online Virtual Collective Machinery Sale to be conducted by eTender. Tenders (sealed bids) to be emailed by Monday 3rd August at 12 noon

I have a 'few' lots in, including:
Trimble FM-750 GPS w/EZ Steer and brackets to fit NH T6/T7, full GPS steering setup w/ RTX license to 6th September.
Cheval 20' OSR extension header w/ electric side knife to fit an NH combine,
Kuhn Axis 30.1 'GPS ready' fertiliser spreader with electronic calibration and shut off and Muller controller,
Opico 'Air 8' seed box ,
Stocks 'Fan Jet 28' slug pellet spreader,
4x pairs of dual wheels with clamps (F/R set from IH956 and F/R set from NH T6),
- 520/70/R38 with clamps
- 320/85 R28 with clamps
and
- 20.5/R38 with clamps
- 540/65 R28 with clamps
Set of row crops to fit Massey / Claas / Renault etc (Gima axle etc),
Front tanks, bunded steel fuel bowser with forklift pockets,
2x Talbot 'T500' Biomass/ wood burning Air Heaters (500,000 BTU),
8t Salop trailer (1976),
Matrot side knife,
Combine rear wheels 16.0/70 -20 (TX66),
Shakerator parts,
etc.
Above items located between Berwick and Kelso.
PM for further info.

How did everyone (sellers and buyers) get on?? Any converts to the tender process.....!?

It was OK, cleared about half of my lots at their expected value, the rest went unsold with only 'low ball' bids ("Jesus loves a trier" and all that). At a traditional collective sale you'd maybe expect two thirds to sell, so it was a bit back from where it might have been. Then again buyers are less likely to take a punt on something they haven't actually seen with their own eyes, and I'm kinda surprised things sold so well with only two farmers taking the time to come and look at the items in the yard.

The only alternative this year is an I-bidder / Proxibid type online auction, where buyers have 10 days to 'up the ante', which has pushed prices way up beyond what you would see at a dispersal. Watching a couple of recent Cheffins sales and lots were reaching what what have been their expected values with 3 days to go and still being bid up 30 to 50% by people with itchy fingers. But it's the fairest way to find a market price, whereas my Trimble GPS had 8 close under bidders with no 2nd chance.

As a buyer I was successful on 1 of the 2 lots I tendered for, and I wasn't too fussed about the other one

Can’t think many bargains to be had in tender process ? Either going to sell or be passed out unless the owner very much under values the reserve which won’t happen very often , think I prefer H&H approach mys

Try the half that’s left at h&h online bidding it’s nicer for buyer , Logan’s sale is shyt on a good day let alone a bad one .

Did seem a strange choice of format, would be interesting to know why they chose it? Did they genuinely expect to achieve higher prices/clearance rates or are the costs of implementing a live auction system such as H&H had, too prohibitive for Border Livestock?

From my perspective, as a potential buyer, I tendered a 'serious' offer for one item i was keen on and a number of the 'Jesus loves a trier' offers on small items. My thinking being that if my main offer wasn't successful I would only have wanted the hassle of going to collect the smaller items if they'd been cheap as chips!! I'd happily have paid more if it was a farm sale and I already had a trailer there, but those days seem a bit far away at the moment.

Bought something from H&H last online sale and have to say i thought it worked very well.

Ha, I was actually loading a cow into the trailer of our farthest out field when my item was ending, got final bid in with about 10secs to go which seemed to trigger an additonal 20 secs of auction....quite gets the pulse going actually!! Good job i had some signal.

Which system do H&H use for their online auctions?

I looked online a dozen times over the last 4 months and H&H were only advertising their cancelled St Boswells auction, right up to the date of the sale. Pre Covid, It was almost as if H&H were trying to run down the machinery side at Boswells.

Just online bidding up to a certain time it’s open to place bids but as the time nears the bidding becomes more frantic 😂 it’s great Cos you can work and bid

Time auction. Stick your item in, set a reserve and watch bids roll in. Works well for both seller and buyer I'd say. Gets rid of all the time wasters......like me!

Just had a look, and it seems quite good. They have the Ellerton auction live just now, which makes me wonder why they haven't notified their email database with a link? New technology being run the old fashioned way, by advertising it in the sodding Scottish Farmer or using smoke signals and carrier pigeons...

Similar to John F Whites lack of email and advertising f**k up last year with the Berwick dispersal sale, nobody knew about it until the week after...

Do you still have to take your lots to Boswells for the virtual sale?

I see they have a sale coming up in a couple of weeks, but still no catalogue or flyer, typical Boswells...

Nail. On. Head.
Not surprised you didn't know about it. With their access to mobile nos, email addresses, even postal addresses, there is no excuse! For a company this size who run 'markets' their marketing is absolutely pi5h!

Havent sold anything, but i think you can enter it and if sold take it to SB or Carlisle for customer uplift. Best check though.

I don’t think you do but if it sells you might have to take it their or buyer might be happy just to come to farm if closer but I’m not sure , give them a ring ya best bet .

Afaik still take it to St.boswells after the sale. From a buyer's point just watch where the item will be because both sales were as one, could end up having to pickup at Carlisle.
