Good Service?

I’m in England for a week. I’ve had to organise some parts to send to Kenya. This morning i popped into my local New Holland dealer for some parts. Four pieces for the rear linkage weren’t in stock but they will come from Daventry and be in the dealers by tomorrow morning. Very good. Four washers were in stock at another branch within the county 28 miles away. Unfortunately they can’t guarantee to get them to my branch by tomorrow evening because the van had already left and they don’t know whether it would be coming tomorrow. Obviouzly i can nip over to the other branch but the parts are £400’s worth and will fit into the glove box of the van. Obviously i’m not a regular customer but if i was looking for a tractor i wouldn’t be buying it from them.

Maybe the van doesn't run between depos everyday.

Maybe but that would not be good for such a big dealership. My son who worked for Claas used to go round the branches and would regularly have to go back to where he started if an order came in whilst he was traveling. Which is really my point if a dealership cannot get a part from another branch within the county within 36 hours it's pretty poor service.

Regarding getting parts from another depot of the same dealership, a few years ago they would just order from the manufacturers parts centre and be there next day, last year I felt they were being told to use up stock from wherever in the dealership in the first instance for cost control/ financial constraints but the van runs between depots is a bit vague and random for time schedules or whatever. This winter I think it has been especially pronounced however the threads in the machinery section regarding entering administration have possibly highlighted the reasons why.

Why not just add the washers to the order coming from daventry????

Claas ive found personnaly, hopeless, given up? Bought a new round baler nearly 10 years back, a new tedder, all from same dealership so im not a dreamer/waster, phoned them up before christmas wanted a price to check/sevice baler, and mower conditioner, thats also claas, got the reply leave it with me ill get back, phonned up a couple of weeks later same story? Phoned up head office of claas to here that they have "problems with staff" i said fair enough but i still would like the machines serviced/checked, plus we are thinking of buying a new round baler, that was weeks ago no response, why should i bother with them or even consider a new baler off them? My experience?

Local claas dealer wouldnt be well liked, but iv friends that have claas spfh and they say 99 times out of 100 parts are in stock and if not will be there at openong time next morning which is great backup unlike krones that have been sitting for a week waiting on a water pump, or 4 jds with blew up engines last year waiting on parts or nh discontinuing some parts for the fx series. If i had a spfh itd defo be claas

This is why John Deere has got so popular. Backup and Backup. Don’t think their equipment is any better than the rest but their parts / service system is pretty bloody good. Also JCB backup is one of the best.

I think that’s why i’m miffed. With Claas generally i’d say it’s ‘Nothing is too much trouble’ however with New Holland it really is ‘ Nothing really is too much trouble’.
I found this to be the case in Kenya and the UK now.

Whilst I understand you are annoyed by the lack of response regarding when the washers would be delivered to your preferred branch/depot I would naturally presume you would have emailed/ ordered the parts prior to arriving in England ready for collection or at the very least whilst in England gone to website to order parts. Nowadays I cannot believe anyone would go to dealership to order parts when they almost know it will involve another trip to dealership to pick them up when you can go on your phone and not waste your time travelling. As far as I am concerned all the major machinery manufacturers have the parts book online, just probably need serial number in case of certain variations or swap over from one updated part to another.

When i got here i got a list of parts needed. Most important were sprayer parts. Some had been preordered others not but Househams generally have everything in stock. From there it’s a short hop to Burdens which is on my way to Claas at Sleaford. I don’t mind travelling to get the bits as i’ve got to get everything together to ship them. If i’d been desperate i’d make a trip to Louth to get the bits but they have a van. It was more the attitude of the young non thin lad in the stores when asked by his colleague who i was dealing with refused to call the van to ask where he was and if he could return to pick up these parts which by then i’d already paid for. The long and the short of it is i got my parts and i’m ready to send them. Often I’d say you often need a bit of personal contact to sort things out. If you aren’t busy or desperate you go in look through the parts doc make sure you are ordering the rights parts and you can nip back tomorrow to collect. If you have to drive two hours it might be different.
