Liquid agricultural lime

Good Morning. Can anyone please tell me where I can get hold of agricultural lime but in liquid form. I have 20 acres in Wales I need to raise the PH on but I only have a quad and sprayer. I have read many articles saying that the liquid lime is effective in raising the PH on pasture, but I cant for the life of me find any to buy. Thank you.

just get a local lime spreading contractor in to do it, it would only be an hours work for them
Thank you I did explore this option, but they were charging a lot to do it, their vehicles are big and with the ground wet, create a lot of damage and also they are not available at the times I need them, I am in the middle of Wales. So ideally wanted to be able to do it myself. Thanks

Sorry just to ask though what you think of the price I was given. It was the beginning of last year so I assume would be higher now. I was quoted to do 18acres with mag lime, with 40 tonnes. £1800 plus vat. Is that what you would expect to pay. Thanks

Just mix it yourself?

Put a bucket of lime in sprayer tank, when half full of water, then fill it up with water and keep agitating it.

You are wasting your time trying to do anything on 20 acres with a quad and sprayer. Forgive me but you strike me as someone who has some land but is not a farmer, am I right?

You will have to wait to until the ground dries up.

On 20 acres you could be talking about the neck end of 40 tonnes of material to spread. This is a job for a lime contractor, like it or not.

How do you know the land needs lime anyway?

If a soil analysis shows that it needs 2t of lime/acre, and you can afford to pay £2000 + Vat, I would just go ahead. I presume you want to increase the productivity of the grass.

I have sometimes spread lime by hand. 20 tonnes at a time over 10 rough acres. Each time it took me 2 days using a mule (quad), a shovel, and a tractor with a front loader to fill the mule. My time was spent 50% driving and 50% throwing lime from the shovel. Hard work and long days, but it can be done if you are fit enough.

if you are putting 2ton/acre, i would say it would be about £2000,

as chae1 said using granular lime through a firtilizer spreader does has its uses for a quick fix but is waste of money long term as it only lasts about a year i think, quarry lime is more expensive but its the best investment for groing grass as you can get!

if your ground is wet just do it in the summer

On a windy day could just throw it from 1 spot and cover a fair bit of field?

Granular limes maybe the answer.

Do you own a fertiliser spreader?

It would be best to dissolve to use as liquid too I think.

When washing fert spreader after spreading Granular it quickly dissolves into a milky liquid.
Hi Thanks. I only have a really small seed spreader. I was wondering if you could dissolve granular lime, but assuming it would be too difficult and get stuck in sprayer nostles, but definitely worth considering.

Is lime really that expensive in the uk? I spread lime for local quarry here in west of Ireland it’s €30 per ton including spreading and lime is vat exempt here also.

Thanks, You are right I am not a farmer, I have alpacas and rescue animals. I just use fields for pasture and a neighbour farmer takes hay for us and we split it off 20 acres. I did do soil tests and it is the PH on the hay fields that are low and they do look like they are struggling. I think you are right and I will have to leave it till next year and decide if I can afford it. Thanks

That certainly sounds more reasonable! Thats the quote I was given and there don't seem many options around me.

At the application rate of 2 tonne/acre you will likely need 40 tonnes delivered and spread. Even at £20/tonne that will be £800.

Grass growth is steady at this time of year as it has been cold. By the sounds of it the land wants feeding as well.
