Valtra N124 demo

This turned up this morning. We’ve had no prior Valtra experience so we are totally new to them. The front runner in potential tractors is currently the New Holland T5.140 dynamic command. So this is Valtra’s equivalent.

Weather is dreadful today so jobs so far have just been tidying up, tipping muck in fields etc and I’m pretty impressed so far. It’s the most comfortable tractor I’ve ever been in by quite some way. Considering it’s a 4 cylinder with a relatively short wheelbase I’m amazed with the ride.
Fast too, 53k with air brakes. Which although sharp have a fair bit of dead travel on the pedal before they bite.

Gearbox is a 4 range with 5 power shift system, this is perhaps my biggest dislike of the tractor. The powershifts are no problem but there’s a big delay in range changes, which is annoying.

Overall it seems and feels like a very premium product, cab and controls all feel high quality except for one of the spool lever trims which came off in my hand twice. Plenty of space in the cab too, and the steering lock is very very good. It can turn in some very tight spaces.

No idea on how it will compare to the T5 in terms of price etc yet. I would guess it will be mote expensive but that’s just my perception of the tractor so far.

You learn patience for range changes and drive accordingly,choose the range at the bottom of the hill not change half way up.

It is not a vario,if you want one buy a direct.

Small gripe maybe if you like an old stick gearbox to jump gears having to go through the sequence may seem a disadvantage.

Yeah I gather it’s one of those things that after a week you just learn its ways. I however have absolutely no want for an old school stick gearbox. I’m used to full power shift but the new Holland dynamic command in the T5 is creamy smooth and fast and changing ranges too.

Should be comparing it to a T6 not a T5
great tractors gearbox is fine when your used to it I use mine in auto for a lot of jobs

Bit gutless standard 💻💻💻

It seems a similar size to the T5 though, and they both have similar power, the same tyres etc. Worth mentioning that the new T5 has the same cab as the T6/7 with the armrest etc. This is the one we are looking at.

It’s not the equivalent of a Nh anything, valtra are in a differant league. It will be more expensive to buy , but cheaper to own , more power on the pto, more power on hills . Better build quality .

Oh that looks loads better than our old T5 everyone hated :ROFLMAO: Doesn’t look much different size wise to our T6 140?

Got a T6.145 and a Valtra N124 here.
Valtra beats it in every way. NH is a big numb thing to drive in comparison.
Valtra front suspension is very good.

We tried a T6.145 and yeah like you say, it’s too big for what we are after. That was when we saw the new T5 in the yard and it’s a lovely looking thing. All the features of the T6 in a much more compact frame.

Try a direct if you're doing any decent amount of loader work. We've had 2 N174 on demo one gearbox and one direct both had they're merits for different things
