I got back into Burbage yard well after 10pm ,,8210 ford, one head light working ,trailer lights were non existent and Mike wanted me to go back to Amesbury for another load of wheat ,,it was a 2 hour round trip ,,needless to say ,I didnt .
Can remember him teaching me the art of multitasking, cleaning the interior of his Shogun while driving 🤦🏻

How long does it take off the A303 to get to Mere down @bitwrx ?
Amesbury to Mere on the A303 is about half an hour. Or an hour and a half, depending on the traffic.

Amesbury to Mere via the scenic route is about 45 mins. Mere down is in the last 5-10 mins.

The upside is you get to see boysgrounds blackgrass, our docks, and if you're really lucky, some weird sheep with no wool.

I Used to do quite a bit of work around Andover/Salisbury. Some hellish nice fields and still get sent photos and videos from friends in fields couple hundred acre.

There is a field near Pertwood on the A350 not far from the 303 which is circa 450acre I think, follows the road for quite a few mile.
Gorgeous views! Shame about the pikies!!!

I love the bit at Mere when coming from west to east and you emerge from the swamp and climb up to the promised land on the chalk 👌
Funnily enough I often miss not seeing the Blackmore Vale and dairy country as you come West off Salisbury Plain as I now come off at Wylye crossroads towards Bath. Early Eighties I was always on that road from South Somerset towards London

I first moved down here 30 years ago (?!) from milking on an 70 acre farm in Bucks
1st job was to go to the back paddock and gather the sheep---i'd never been near a sheep or handled a dog ---just given a dog with instructions (come bye, get away)
The back paddock was 180 acres ---fell in love with the landscape immediately, totally in awe
What i really like about the Deverills/Mere is that it's where the downs and the lush dairy valleys meet---a total contrast

Went to twickenham on the 303 at the weekend to watch rugby, very jealous of the huge fields that way, if anyone here farms it then I must say your crops lovely, credit where credits due, just wish I could be that way come harvest to have a look.
I’ve got lovely views in Cornwall but my word what a lovely part of the countryside it is.
It's easy land to work ---rain today , plough tomorrow
Even if it is hungry and without any topsoil to speak of

I often say that nobody looks at Wiltshire, they drive trough on the M4 or A303 and don’t take any notice . It’s a county of space and landscape which most aren’t interested in. I love it but I am biased.

Some would say the same of Suffolk on their dash from London to North Norfolk or day trips out of Essex. Long may it continue as a secret

It's a county of huge variety of landscapes and soils from the beautiful chalk stream valleys to Salisbury plain to the Westbury vale and up to the beginning of the cotswolds. There must be every type of soil known, from our heavy clay, to chalk and loam through greensand to normal sand especially around bromham where a lot of veg are grown.

My name on here wasn’t a random choice 😁
