I cycled up Mere Down today from the steep side just to get some photos of the view.

It’s is definitely one of the best views in Wiltshire out over the Blackmore Vale. The iPhone doesn’t really do it justice.

That’s a great view, I’ve always liked the view out from Oliver’s Castle over bloody ditch

I first moved down here 30 years ago (?!) from milking on an 70 acre farm in Bucks
1st job was to go to the back paddock and gather the sheep---i'd never been near a sheep or handled a dog ---just given a dog with instructions (come bye, get away)
The back paddock was 180 acres ---fell in love with the landscape immediately, totally in awe
What i really like about the Deverills/Mere is that it's where the downs and the lush dairy valleys meet---a total contrast
Totally agree with this. Grew up in the Witham Vale, about as heavy and wet a clay area as you can get. However walk 15 mins up the road and you get to the Selwood Forest on the greensand. Another 15 mins and you were into Wiltshire and could see Whitesheet and Mere Down in the distance. Amazing how different the world looked just for crossing through that forest. Stunning both sides but very different.
