First crop into derelict land

Had ta similar opportunity 10 plus years ago.
The land had not been touched for about 6 years but was arable beforehand.
We sprayed it off with glyphosate beginning of September put about 2t ac of lime on, ploughed it and combi drilled wheat off the heap mid October.
Had quite a lot of rook damage through the winter but springtime it just grew away and filled in.
Probably one of the best yields of wheat I've ever combined. Its become some of our best land to date.
I can remember the land growing fodder beet many years before and we had a crop of it coming through an over winter cover crop a couple of years ago.
Never had trouble with any leather jackets or wireworm but I suspect the rooks were after them in the first winter.
Have seen a couple of leather jackets this last spring but no damage to see.

And how would you get there? The grass is currently 3' tall? Flail off? Sheep might work but we have none and there are tracks from dog walkers all over.
The mzuri would put them into grass?
If not, then find someone with a weaving.

Winter beans, not this spring.

I'd let someone stick sheep on it for the summer.

Could you get a crop of grass off it this year, plenty of muck and lime if necessary and then into wheat? Might be old fashioned but big dose of glyphosate and plough in summer, let it weather down glyphosate again and combi drill.

Hoping to rent some land of a neighbour, currently in poor grass that was last cut in 2019 (bales still in the field). Wet medium to clay land, trio, plough or contract Mzuri available. Ideally get it into first wheat in the autumn, we grow maize, cereals and beans on the farm, lots of muck available. How should I attack it?

What sort of acreage are you talking about?

How long would you be able to have it for?

How well does it drain, does it often flood?

Have you got a basic pH, P, K, Mg soil analysis?

for us we, sprayed off and topped in july, ploughed and sowed stubble turnips and rape, grazed with cattle, then spring barley. then winter beans and in the third year wheat, which was a very good crop. only change would be to be not to plough it in the first year as it was very soft underfoot grazing turnips with cattle.

I rented a 40 acre farm like that hadn't been farmed for 10 years took it on the basis I didn't have to pay any rent for first 3 years spent most of winter cutting back hedges
then mowed all grass and lifted with a silage wagon and dumped on a large bit of rough ground to rot down spryed of and planted potato's first year then spring barley for two years then back into grass

Never understood how you can do potatoes after grass but some do, I would be terrified of leatherjackets etc
