Tractor Tyres

Bit of a minefield?!?

I was drilling stubble turnips other day and suddenly tyre went down on the back of new Holland. Got a gash in the side wall.

Could have repaired it but thought tyres 5 year old and few other minor gashs in the sidewall as well. Bought some new BKTs to be fitted today. Old ones were firestones but when you talk to people they'd a bad name although they grip really well when drilling.

Which new tyres are best for traction??

Heard BKTs are alright but not sure as if you talk to few people they just try and sell you what they deal in

Depends how much you want to spend. I think Firestone are pants myself. I think Kleber (owned by Michelin I believe) are a happy compromise for a general purpose tractor. If you’re in big time arable with large draft equipment, or somewhere really soft, then you are probably going to be looking towards a more specialist tyre, probably a variety of Michelin.

We are not running anything massive all 3 metre equipment and 5 furrow plough, vredestein were about 300 quid a tyre more than BKT. Firestone same as vredestein, couldn't get a trelleborg price

I swapped trelleborgs for bkt 18 months ago £910, trelleborgs £2100. Even if they were the same price I'd have the bkt. Road and grassland

Bridgestone have the newest tyre carcass designs on the market

The VS offers best carrying capacity at low pressure with tremendous grip (I'm told). Owning a set of VX tyres, I don't doubt the salesmans pitch for the VS performance

VX offers exceptional load capacity and tremendous wear resistance, especially for road work, and grip better than Michelin agribibs. VX replaced agribibs on my 9 tonne loader tractor. Michelins didn't have the carrying capacity for it, despite being factory fit. Bridgestone VX have done over 4000 hours, and are still much less than half worn

Having said all that praise, I'm sure to rip the sidewall out of one now 😭

When I was shopping I couldn't find anyone to price a set. Probably easier now they're more known

Just replaced trelleborgs with bkt on a big tractor I drive price being the main driver in new brand choice. They seem to grip ok, but have to run at lower pressures to achieve it compared to the trellies. They’d done 9000 hours. Don’t suppose we’ll have it long enough to see if the bkts will lay as long.

Has anyone any experience with the Nokian block type tractor tyres... Suppose to grip in the fields as good as any tyre with a long road life... Local tyre place has some good deals on them ar times
I got Nokias tri2 on a hedgecutting tractor. Done around 6000hrs mainly road work and are about 50% worn. Grip ok in the dry but not the best in mud as they clog up.

I always go for michelin for top work. 7530 came with trelleborg 710s. Side walls seem stiff even al low pressures compared to the Michelin multibibs I'm used too
