Which tub mixer

Someone has fudged up their numbers there and clearly doesn't realise they've made the fudge up. They surely mean up to 30,000L which is 30 cube so would fit the needs of nearly every farm in the UK?
you wouldn't drive a 30 cube with a 100hp tractor. A friend of mine has a 24 cube and it has blown the engine twice on his 120hp John Deere.

I was going to ask, what size of tractors are people using for a 24 cube? I have a 14 cube SiloKing and it is a hard drive, I run it on a Ford 8210 (which should be round that 100) and the tractor is running hard. So much so I have done the head gasket and scored the cylinders (I know age is coming into play also).

Why the move from paddle to tub may i ask?
Capacity and quality of mix. Our Keenan really struggles to break up our wetter silage. We’ve also started feeding a couple kg of baled silage and the Keenan really doesn’t like it. I also want to move to feeding once a day, we’re currently feeding twice for 120 cows but have 3rd robot going in so will be up to 170 in no time.

Just watch ghe tub doesnt ball up your wetter silage. Iv a neighbour has a big kennan with the bale kit on it and he gets on fine with it

Don't know if they've changed how they work, but I used to use a Keenan with a bale kit on it and the bloody thing was dangerous. It would throw a bale off of it if you weren't watching.

Does such a thing even exist?
Yes they exist, never seen one in this country.

13hp/cube here, you can use smaller tractors but it takes twice as long to mix.

I mix 5k t a year with tub mixers and in 16 years have never had it “ball up” it’s also very rare for us to see dry silage.

That’s a fair dollop of power, my 20 cube Keenan would need 260 hp, thought I was overpowered with 130 to 160!

Its not quite so much the mixing-as-you-fill-it power requirement - its the re starting a full tub between groups at low engine rpm, where the 150hp tractor is not making 150hp, plus the considerable hydraulic demand if you've got the conveyor going as well.

I have an 11cu Shelbourne and at 1200rpm the 7740 known as a pretty torquey motor, seriously struggles to restart it.

The keenan is not the machine for bales.
If we’re honest bales put a strain on everything, we were round bale silage when I left school and one of my early f ups was buying a tub to chop them up, had to reline it and rebuild the auger after a season. Built a clamp shortly afterwards and never looked back. The wear and tear created chewing up bales was eye watering and that’s not to mention the diesel burned in the process.

I agree chopping bales in a wagon is a cost I try & avoid but a twin auger compared to a single is a game changer when/if you do have to do. There’s no comparison in the speed of it
