Can’t argue with the reviews the pottinger is getting on here, but looking in the brochure I don’t know if they just tickle my fancy, can’t just put my finger on it but something just doesn’t wow me! but going to look at one in the flesh next week so maybe after that I will change my mind!

It’s in the field , it will do it for you, brochures for them all are great , but it’s in the field that counts.

I'd be surprised if you don't change your mind when you look at one. They're well designed and well finished with attention to detail like lining grease nipples up on shafts to make greasing easier.

It's only my opinion, but having baled behind both, I think the kuhn makes a better swath shape to follow with a baler
Having used and baled behind both the Pottinger and the new model Kuhn I'd say the Pottinger makes a better swath. The Kuhn swath is heaped up in the middle and reducing pto revs doesn't help even it out. The Pottinger makes a square swath and does it faster.

Any rake will make any shape sward depending on how it’s set. Having owned two Kuhn and now the 762c , i could never get the Kuhn to tidy in the loose bits at the edge of the sward , then when the wheels of the tractor drive over them they can be missed by the pick up. So I was making a norrow row with the Kuhn to get it all in between the wheels , now with the pottinger I can leave a wider sward and the wheels of the tractor won’t be catching any of it, this spreads the grass more even over all the knives in the wagon , leaving the wagon easier to drive. I find that a narrow sward with a heap of grass in the middle is harder on power to chop.

How many acres has it done .

Maybe 2-2500 per year, not really sure. But 2-300 acre of that is grass combined for see, with deep tramlines, another 1-200 acre is turning wet straw, and maybe another 1-200 acre of ridge and furrow as well so not all easy going. It follows the ground really well in these conditions.

New one coming is a Flowtast, we'll have to see how it performs. Hopefully it'll replace our merger as we can't get on with it.

We bought this Claas 1700 liner twin and so far so good. Follows the ground perfectly. Built strong and the turning wheels at the back makes it really manageable. Done about 250ha so far with it. We do cut more for quality than quantity so the swath going to one side makes that you can get 12m together for a nice windrow for the baler.

What’s wrong with it , what do you think of the reiter trailed machine . Would you buy the trailer version.

Nothings wrong with it as such, just doesn’t do what we want, and it’s hard to get a decent swath, especially in really long grass. Takes a very good operator, whereas a rake is a lot more forgiving. If we ran foragers it may be different, but for all balers a rake is as good or better in my opinion.

They claim that a forage harvestor can go faster on their sward compared to a rake , I can’t see that happening , I see it throwing out lumps into the sward.

No idea about foragers but in second cut our 762C could go up the row at 10k. The Flowtast could go 15k. The Merger 18k.
The baler (MF2290 XD Procut) was 14k behind the Flowtast, 10k behind the merger due to lumps.
