How many acres does he need to get through to bring his total cost per acre down to £20 an acre. A Dom 76 will do 200 acres at total cost £20 an acre including depreciation, repairs maintenance, labour, fuel and negligible interest charge. What are standard combining costs for a new £200k machine or a hired one doing say 1000 acres.
I often wonder if the small inefficient farmer can keep his combining costs to below £20 an acre then why can't those with new combines do better on a bigger acreage. Contractors charges of £40 must surely mean their costs are £30 an acre plus.
